Dialogue of Object and Clothing
JUNE 2022
CHILLGA envisions breaking away from the ordinary. In 2021, for the first time, I dismantled and reconstructed clothing with cement to create a new look. This ongoing series continues to explore the possibilities of clothing beyond the confines of the body, incorporating canvases, sculptures, and various processing techniques. It reflects on the relationshi between people and objects, reinitiating a new dialogue.

This series involves the deconstruction of second-hand Levi’s denim, NIKE AF1 sneakers, and MA1 bomber jackets. These materials are then molded with cement to create vases and planters, breathing new life into them with fresh plantings. Some pieces in this collection feature collaborative artworks with the plant textile creations of artist D.3.C, bringing together plants, vessels, and woven fabrics in a regenerated showcase!

Cube+
Inspired by a visit to a second-hand clothing recycling factory in Taiwan, where garments were compressed into square bricks for export to Southeast Asian countries, I couldn't help but reflect on the impact of overconsumption. Consequently, I poured cement over second-hand clothing to create cube-shaped blocks. These cubes were then individually processed with splattered paint, bleaching, or indigo dyeing, ensuring that each Cube is unique. Moreover, after breaking the cube, the clothing can be reclaimed and worn again, elevating the concept of Upcycling to a new level of transformation.

In collaboration with the stylistic illustrator changchenyu, this collection merges cement and clothing with vibrant primary colors, envisioning the masterpieces left on walls during childhood. It embraces the freedom of unrestrained graffiti, recalling the joy of expressing creativity without limits
